Sound of the Reef: Coral Enneagrams

(4/22/24)

Sound of the Reef: Coral Enneagrams is a visual-music experience whimsically pairing musical interpretations with select coral species to express the unique fears, strengths, and negotiations of each enneagram type. The album invites us to dive into aspects of our being, as well as the abundant beauty of coral life within our oceans, aiming to create a fun, self-exploratory musical and visual experience inspiring curiousity about ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

Passage

(4/16/22)

"Passage" comes at a time of wide and deep individual and collective reckoning. My hope is this album provides one with a close kind of comfort - that special balm music and poetry provide.
The poem, "Passage" was written by poet, scholar, psychologist, and psychoanalyst, Forrest Hamer, Ph.D. Wanting to do an interdisciplinary project exploring grief and the ocean, I asked Hamer if he had a poem of such. The poem Hamer sent moved me so much, I decided to focus all my composing on it. I hope you enjoy, Passage. Album art by Fariba Bogzaran.

Margaret in the wilD

(2021)

A lifelong nature lover, who finally found her place with the help of strikingly emotional ocean swims during the pandemic, “Margaret in the Wild” represents Pixley unapologetically (and finally) planting herself alongside others. The nine-track album demonstrates Pixley opening herself to the wilds of connection, to gratitude for what she has been given, to sorrow for what she has lost, and to nature’s inspirational capacity to root an uprooted beginning. Inside Under.jpg

Inside Under, EP (2018)

A first EP that goes inside and under experiences of coming into middle adulthood and parenthood at this time in the United States--these experiences being Trump’s election, continued environmental crises due to global warming, continued murdering of black people, and the conflicted optimism of bringing a child into this world during all of it. Each song takes varying attitudes about these experiences—irreverence, respect, acceptance, and honesty, to name a few. You can hear the album on Bandcamp, here. Also available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, and other streaming services. Album art by Kevin Shaw.
